PIANO LESSONS

All lessons are offered on a one-to-one basis, with each lesson being tailored to the student's needs. The emphasis is placed on the ability to read music, rote pieces, technique and improvisation. The lesson's content varies, depending on the student's goals and the level of playing. Music theory is incorporated in conjunction with practical skills. Lessons take place in a home music studio located in Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow, in the Western Isles development. Online lessons are also available. I'm PVG certified teacher and have experience teaching children with learning difficulties.

PRE-SCHOOL PIANO

Pre-schoolers are very welcome in my studio. I strongly believe that piano lessons at this age need to be fun in order for the child to truly appreciate music. Piano students aged 3-5 learn through specifically designed "games" based on pattern recognition as well as activities that involve some movement. Students have also the opportunity to get to know different composers through music theory games and every student's favourite - composer assignment sheets.

The curriculum begins with the child getting to know keyboard geography and the music alphabet, subsequently progressing to pre-stave notation, standard music notation, improvisation and more. Children at this age learn best through games and specifically designed activities. Below are some of the studio's favourites. CHILD AND TEENAGE STUDENTS

Students can choose from a wide selection of repertoire, whether it's classical, jazz, blues or popular music. In the first couple months of lessons, students will follow a specifically sequenced piece-by-piece progression in order to establish a healthy technique and confident note reading. In the later stages of study, students have the opportunity to establish their musical taste by picking from a selection of pieces in their favourite genres. It is highly motivating for students and keeps them interested and excited about lessons. Music theory is incorporated into lessons from the very beginning which helps students to analyse music easily and effectively. In conjunction with a wide range of repertoire, student-teacher duets are encouraged from the start as they strengthen the student's rhythmic perceptions and boost confidence but above all, creating music together is lots of fun!

ADULT STUDENTS

Adult students are very welcome in my studio - whether beginner or more experienced players. Lesson plans for each student are designed individually to make sure students learn music they genuinely enjoy and listen to. Beginner students are guided through preparatory material to ensure efficient progress. Improvisation is introduced from the very first lesson as a way of creating beautiful music together from the start. Since music reading is predominantly an art of interpretation, here are some other aspects of music that can be taught to interested students: the art of arranging, composition and music theory.

For students interested also in audio production, I can teach how to operate the most popular DAWs (ProTools, Logic, GarageBand), help with a home recording set-up as well as edit and mix audio.
